Many pet, more particular dogs, chew many of their owners out of house and home. The reasons for this can be many, but much of the time it is because they are either, bored, hungry or full of aggression towards you.

When dogs are bored particularly after being alone for some period of time they just start to look for things to stimulate themselves. Much like we humans do. Dogs however look for things to chew or destroy rather than a video game or calling someone. Now they don t think they are destroying anything. They are just having fun. But when we get home and see what has happened it is anything but fun for both of us.

There are several ways to deal with a pet that is bored. First and foremost, spend time with them. That s why you have a pet in the first place. They need companionship just as much as you do. Pets live and breathe to make us happy. They just need to know that they are loved and wanted. Just as you do. So here are the keys to this. Play with them. Take them on walks. Take them to the park or with you when you are running errands. You get the idea. Pets are not here to comfort us 20 minutes a day or a week for that matter. They are with us to be our companion and part of our family in life. The quick answer to a pet being bored is to give them attention.

The second reason our pets chew is because they are hungry. Just like a baby, when they are hungry they get upset and cry our pets get up set and act out as well. They chew! So the simple answer is to make sure that they get plenty to eat. A good quality pet food is a necessity in this day and age. You can feed them Pedigree but that food is mostly all fillers you can feed raw food but that can be messy and time consuming. A good quality food will have things like chicken meal, lamb meal, rice and barley. It will also contain ingredients that will provide the omega 3 and 6 oils. The logic here is that if you feed your pet a good quality food (one without fillers) their nutritional needs will be met and they will be less hungry and therefore less likely to chew.

Aggression towards us is another reason that pets may chew things. This sort of goes hand in hand with the first 2 reasons stated above. Take for example you walk your dog every day after work. The last week you have been working late and not able to walk your dog. Your dog doesn t understand this but knows that he s not getting the attention that they are used to. So as an act of aggression towards you they start chewing things up. More times then not taking your dog on the walks that he so loves and needs should correct the problem.

Our pets chew things for many reasons. Many times chewing is a sign that they need something from us. Weather it be love, attention or just the right food it is our job to do our best to treat everyone in the family equal and to make sure that they have what is necessary for them to be content. What to do when a pet dies
There is a ritualized mourning process when death comes to humans, and as pets get more integrated into our families, how do we honor their time with us as they pass on? Pet urns, pet keepsakes and other memorial items are available to serve as physical reminders of their presence but it’s a shocking decision to make in times of grief. I know because my cat passed away recently after 19.5 years of loyal companionship. So what do you do when your pet dies? My cat passed away at home and in the middle of winter; burying her in the frozen backyard was not an option. Furthermore, it was against city bylaws so check your local area guidelines on pet burial. I placed my cat’s body in a cardboard box and drove her to the vet. There, I asked for her to be cremated. Since I wanted her ashes back, I specifically asked how cremation works. Would her cremation remains (cremains) be mixed with other pets? Would I need to get individual cremation services? From what I was told, in communal cremation, 2-6 bodies are placed in the cremation chamber and are placed widely enough apart that there is no cross contamination. There’s a chute underneath the bodies to collect the ashes when the cremation process is done. I was satisfied with this explanation, so I opted for communal cremation. However, for those who want to be sure, by all means, get individual cremation. There is also something called witness cremation services where you are allowed to witness the cremation process for personal closure. Be sure to ask your veterinary clinic if these options are available. You are charged with the cremation process and again for the return of the cremains. My clinic provided a standard urn but I wanted an upgrade. They showed me a catalog but I was unsure. It was just a jumble of emotions and I couldn’t decide. However, I knew I wanted to get a pet urn that was befitting of the personality of my cat. I asked if they could hold the body for me while I decided and they said to take the time I needed and that they would keep the body safe. In my head, I took that to mean a week as a reasonable time to decide. I went home and searched the Internet for an appropriate cat urn. After deliberating for a couple of days, I finally decided on a crouching brass calico cat urn that I liked which reminded me of her basking in the sun of the window sill. I thought she would have liked it. I ordered the urn and phoned the clinic to inform them of my decision. Along the way, I asked them to make paw prints of my cat, since that was something that I had read up on but it didn’t occur to me at the time to ask. Surprise, surprise, they had already burned the body! They had taken her body to be cremated the following day after I had dropped her off at night. So much for taking my time to make the decision. Luckily, even before I took the body to the vet, I had taken a lock of my cat’s hair as a keepsake. Also, write down your pet’s proper name. You get a cremation certificate when your urn is returned to you. And unfortunately, they wrote the name of my cat wrong. In times of stress and grief, these details will be lost on most individuals and that is why it is important to have the support of friends and family with us to handle these rough times. Today we are going to talk about some of the Bad Habits barrel racers form when training or practicing with their barrel horse. Many of us don’t even realize our bad habits in the practice pen. Getting into a routine isn’t always a good thing and is definitely the root of all your competitive run problems. Out of the many, many mistakes barrel racers often make, I have chosen the top three to help you fix your problems. Leaning! We have all done it. Not one barrel racer is excluded from Leaning. There are so many cons to this bad habit that this mini-course doesn’t have time to list. Leaning throws off your balance, your horses balance, and increases your chances of a wide or hit barrel. A great trick to breaking this habit is to teach your horse to approach the second and third barrel in a straight line. Don’t let your horse move his/her hips out..this forces your body into a lean. The next reaction is to look right at the barrel and before you know it, you are running right into it. There are many training strategies and drills to help you break this habit. Stay tuned. Shouldering! Leaning and shouldering go hand in hand. If your horse is doing one or the other, you probably are too! Shouldering is similar in that your horses hips most likely always move to the outside of the turn when approaching the barrel. This best thing you can do for your horse to stop this bad habit is to trot acorss the arena to approach your barrel and keep constant contact on the outside rein. This will keep your horses head straight and his hips in line. Rate and turn your barrel normally. A few times around the barrels in this way will create a new habit and body language for both of you. Alley Anxiety! Does your horse know your name when it is called at the race??? NO!!! We all get ready, anzious, nervous, or excited. It’s our sport and we wanna show ‘em what we’ve got! Rider anxiety translates directly to your horse. When you squeeze your legs, tighten your grip and your heart starts pounding…guess what? Your horse feels it. Now instead of thinking that he is just going into the arena to make a fun,fast barrel run. Your horse is thinking there is a lion in the arena that is ready to pounce. Relax and let your horse know that this is the same fun thing that you practice at home. One way to break anxiety is to have a clear plan of what you are going to do. Making mental runs before your actual run always helps. Taking deep breaths in the alley way will clear your mind and get plenty of oxygen to the brain. Limit Confusion! By changing your game plan, equipment, or approach to a barrel you are causing confusion with every run. Limit your horses chance to be confused by keep everything the same for at least a week full of runs. Once you have targeted a specific problem, then make one equipment or training change per 7 runs.
