Perfect Cat Box For Your Cat
Perfect Cat Box For Your Cat
By the end of this article, you should have gained enough new knowledge on this subject to feel like a pro. Household pet cats definitely need litter boxes in which they do their business. Just like people, these feline friends can get finicky over this matter, so it is very important that they make sure the litter box they have for their pet cat suits the cats preferences; after all, it is the cat that is going to use it. But the owner should also consider his own convenience regarding this matter; he should consider his budget for the cat box as well as the ease of cleaning it.
Choosing the perfect cat box can be beneficial to both your cats health as well as the owners. The important thing is that the cat box must be appealing to the cat and comfortable for use. Rest assured, the cat’s satisfaction also guarantees success.
In finding the perfect cat box, here are some things that must be considered:
Size and Depth:
This maybe determined by the number of cats there are in the home. However, it is ideal if the number of cats in the home determines the number of cat boxes available rather than the size. For kittens, shallow cat boxes, no more than three inches deep are advisable. For adult cats on the other hand, those about six inches high are desirable. The prescribed area of the litter box is at least 24 inches in length or width.
Material of the Box:
Heavy and durable plastic is the most advisable material for a cat box and is also the most inexpensive variety in stores. Plus with their simplicity in style, cleaning can prove to be a breeze.
Ease of Cleaning:
Basic flat boxes are easy to clean because of their simple design. There is no need to remove any lids or covers to scoop or clean. However, some cats frequently kick litter out of the box so if you choose this option, you had better have a whisk broom and a dust pan always at hand.
Covered boxes usually minimize the trouble of having cat litter and waste scattered outside the box since they have hoods which keep all the litter inside. Covered boxes also tend to become stinky due to poor ventilation.
There are also those self-cleaning cat boxes available in the market. The self-cleaning feature of these boxes keep the cat box neat and tidy, but they also require some cleaning from the owner. Every few days the receptacle must be emptied of urine and feces and sometimes the rake does not get every bit of cat waste so there may be an occasional need for scooping them out.
Style and Features:
There is a wide variety of designs, styles and features for cat litter boxes. The owner may have to choose which one will be most convenient for him and his cat.. Below are listed some basic designs for cat litter boxes:
-Basic flat box. This is the simple rectangular pan which is commonly made of plastic. They come in different depths, sizes and colors. This design is preferred by most cats. An innovation to this design whose is to hold the cat box liners in place by securing them under the rim.
-Covered cat boxes or hooded litter boxes. These cat litter boxes look like the traditional open-type rectangular pans except for the addition of the hood which partly covers the box. An opening is situated at one end of the box which serves as the entrance and exit way for the cat. The hood is also positioned high enough so that the cat can stand and do its job with ease and comfort. While they provide “privacy” for the pet, they tend to get very smelly because of poor ventilation inside. Manufacturers of this type of cat boxes have offered a solution to this problem. Some variants of the hooded type have vents on top plus a filter which aids in trapping odors. For this type of cat box, it is recommended that you choose one that is large enough to accommodate the pet, has a hood which can be easily maneuvered for easy cleaning, and large vents.
-Designer boxes. Also known as “hidden boxes”, this type of litter box disguises itself as a furniture piece or even a plant. A designer litter box not only serves to be the cat’s convenient toilet but it can also function as an accent for the room in which it is located. Although the containers are commonly not large enough, there are designs which are big and more open. These are the ones which are more ideal for use. Try to find one which provides good ventilation.
-Sifting Boxes. A few other variants of this type are available in the market but the basic model consists of two rectangular pans and a tray which acts as a sifter.
-Self-cleaning box. These electrical-powered high-end litter boxes work with a sensor which activates the self-cleaning machinery a few minutes after the cat has left the box. The cleaning machinery contains a rake which works its way along the litter to scoop out cat pee and poop into a waste receptacle. There is still the need to occasionally clean the unit, especially the cleaning mechanism itself.
Cost:
The basic flat box is the most affordable of all the designs mentioned. The self-cleaning box is obviously the most expensive and their guarantee commonly lasts for only one year. This can be a risk which the owner must consider before actually buying a unit.
Appealing to the Cat:
Cats generally do fine with the open box type. Covered boxes offer the “privacy” which some cats like but some cats feel trapped inside them. Owners of designer boxes may find it attractive to put them in places where they will be most appreciated. However, they must be sensitive to the fact that cats most often opt to do their business in a place which is quiet and safe. As for the automated self-cleaning cat litter boxes, some finicky cats may find them comfy since they are clean and spacious. However, they may get psyched out by the mechanical action if they chance to see it actually happen. They might be afraid of using the unit again.
Finding the perfect cat litter box may be a hard task and may require experimentation on the part of the owner. If the owner tries out a box which his pet really does not like, he should not insist on the cat using it. Though this experimentation may become tedious, it can be necessary to find the perfect box for your cat. Providing the cat its preferred litter box can bring good health and satisfaction to both owner and pet, and the carpet as well! Make It Easier For Yourself - Train Your Cat To Use The Toilet
Cleaning out a smelly litter box is not exactly the most appealing activity one can imagine. And the messy litter that sticks everywhere on the carpet, the room smelling like … But have you ever thought of training your cat to use the toilet? Wouldn’t it be a lot easier if you could just flush it down?
There are some questions which you should take into consideration before you decide to toilet train your cat. Cats are not able to flush the toilet simply because they are not heavy enough to manipulate the flushing mechanism. So, you will have to do it yourself. This means that the eliminations may sit in your toilet for a while. However, the smell of cat’s poop is much less evident when submerged in water. If you have two separate bathrooms in your house, you could assign the less frequently used toilet to your cat so you don’t feel embarrassed when you get visitors.
You can find many books and articles on cat toilet training but what works and what doesn’t depends on your cat’s personality and individual preferences. Young kittens cannot balance very well so you will need to wait until they are 5 to 6 months old at which age their musculoskeletal system and locomotion are more developed. On the other hand, a cat is never too old to be toilet-trained unless it suffers with a condition preventing it from jumping and balancing, such as arthritis.
Before you start training your cat to use the toilet, it should be trained to use the litter box and the family members should get used to keeping the bathroom open and toilet lid up!
Measure the widest diameter of your toilet and buy a metal bowl which will sit in it securely. You may need to make some adjustments. Do not buy anything from plastic; it is just not strong enough to support cat’s weight and could bend and break. You will also need to buy some flushable litter at this stage so your cat has time to get accustomed to it.
Gradually move the litter box closer to the bathroom. Allow a few days for cat to get used to each new position. Once the box sits next to the toilet and your cat is used to it, you can start to raise it higher until it is leveled with the toilet. Make sure the box is stable and cannot flip over. At this point, you should place the metal bowl in the toilet. Wait a few days until the cat is comfortable using the litter box at this level.
Now is the time to make the transition from litter box to the bowl. Fill the bowl with the (flushable) litter the cat is used to and take the litter box away. Wait a week or two to give the cat time to feel comfortable with using the bowl.
Then gradually reduce the amount of litter in the bowl until there is no litter at all. Wait again until the cat is used to eliminate in the empty bowl. If the cat’s feet are still resting in the bowl at this stage, you can fill it with water as cats don’t like to get their feet wet. This should help the cat to learn balance on the seat. Wait again. Then cut off the bottom of the bowl so that all eliminations fall straight into the toilet water. Wait a few days and then take the bowl away. Voila, your cat is toilet trained.
Most cats can be successfully toilet trained. Some of them learn fast and can be trained in as little as 2-3 weeks, others may take 2 months or longer, but it is worth to be patient if your reward is saying good buy to smelly litter box forever.

Cats love to hunt - it's in their genes
Cats are one of the best developed species when it comes to hunting. They are very effective predators, even domestic cats can hunt and eat more than 1000 species including mice, birds, rats, moles and fish. Their whole body is made for hunting, their senses are much better developed than those of humans. Cats can hear and see better, they have skills and instincts that helps them to catch their prey. If they didn’t have these skills they would starve to death in a natural environment.
Cats can hunt a huge variety of animals. They eat very little animals like roaches but also bigger ones like rabbits or rats.
The fact that cats are not specialized on a small number of preys gives them a better chance to find an animal to hunt. If there is no tasty rabbit to hunt, they go for a mouse or a bird or even small animals like spiders, roaches or other insects.
In order to hunt these little fast insects, cats need to be also very fast as well as intelligent.
Cats use different strategies to hunt their prey like sneaking or pouncing. Cats have developed these skills throughout thousands of years and unlike us humans even domestic cats still have these skills. Humans had similar skills but we lost them due to civilization and industrialization.
There are cats hunting in groups like lions or tiger. As you can see in various wildlife reports on tv they are very successful by huntig in a group. Although there are cats hunting in groups most cats are single hunters. They simply sneak as close to their prey as possible. If they are close enough the prey has no chance to escape. In most cases cats hunt in woods or in areas with high grass, this way they can hide and not be seen by their prey. Cats are very silent when hunting, you will not hear them coming, they suddenly appear.
You can see some domestic cats presenting their victims to their owners. These trophies are kind of a present, they give you something back in return for feeding them. This is a highly social behavior and means that the cat has adopted the human owner in her social group. Sometimes this means that the cat wants to take care of you. This behavior can be seen in wildlife , cats help each other in case one was not successful at hunting.
Cats are specialized on killing and eating other animals. They have developed special teeth to kill the pray fast and shear it up in pieces that fit into the mouth. It is probably good to give your cat raw meat once in a while for a better development of her teeth. This natural food is healthy for the cat because it provides needed amino acids, taurine, vitamines and quatiy fat.
Cats can not live on a vegetarian diet, they are carnivores so they need their meat. They need a high percentage of amino acids and vitamins provided by the meat. A vegetarian diet can not provide enough amino acids, it contains too many carbohydrates and other low quality ingredients. Feed your cat with a high quality meat or special cat food. Make sure the cat food does not consist of too many carbohydrates or low quality ingredients.
If you want to be nice to your cat provide her a way to get outside the house. You cat can then develop its natural instincts and behavior. It has a chance to develop its skills at hunting and sneaking. Your cat will love the nature and it will be thanful for getting outside. Maybe your cat will come home with a little present for you, something like a bird or a mouse…
If you life in a city where there is no possibility for your cat to go outside then at least play with her at home to develop her skills. This can be done in several ways, read about it in other articles on my website.
Enjoy having a cat!

Should You Own an Automatic Self Cleaning Cat Litter Box?
Cat litter boxes can be a chore to clean to buy and clean and find what is right for cat. All cats and cat boxes come in different shapes, sizes and styles and litter boxes need to be right for your cat. One litter box that can fit and work for about any cat is an automated or automatic self cleaning cat litter box. You’ll need to know some various things about automatic self cleaning cat litter boxes before you go out and buy one though. I’ll run you through a quick lesson for some ideas and information you should know about self cleaning automatic cat litter boxes. First you should always know some information about your cat. For instance if your cat scares extremely easy and is afraid of everything then stick to a regular litter box as the gears from the automated litter box may spook your feline to often. While the motors are not very loud now days it still could be enough to frighten a jittery litter bundle of joy into peeing in the corner of your home instead of in the litter box. The next thing you should know is how old your cat is. If your cat is a tiny little kitten then don’t use the self cleaning litter boxes. With a kitten you need little more than a small litter pan. If a kitten is to small they may become scared inside the litter box and not come out. You’ll want to know how large your cat is. If you have a fatty for a cat then make sure you get the large size self cleaning litter box. If the litter box is to small your cat will end up spraying out of the box or maybe not even use the box at all which could end up being very bad. The larger sizes are worth the money for about any cat over the age of one year old still. As the larger size boxes ensure enough growing room for your cat or cats. If you have multiple cats you may even consider using more than one litter box. The biggest concern people have with buying an automated litter box for their cat is price. I tend to think of it this way; yes its a lot more expensive to get a self cleaning litter box for your cat. However that advantages are you only have to change the tray once a week and once you’ve bought one they last for quite a long time. For me saving the extra time rather than hand scooping the litter box out daily is well worth the investment and typically only sets us back $100-$125 to begin with. Don’t buy anything in the three-hundred dollar range save your money and buy something in the low to mid One-hundred dollar range. The money you save will allow to buy that nice premium clumping litter you’ll need to refill the litter box.

Do I need a cat furniture?
There are different kinds of cat furniture you can choose from like cat condos, cat trees and others. Depending on where you live and what kind of design you prefer, you have different choices of cat furniture. If you life in a suburban area or on the landside and your cat has a way to go outside the house, then you won’t need any cat furniture. But if you life in a city and your cat stays at home all the time, then you better listen and save yourself some a lot of frustration.
Consider these things before choosing a cat furniture:
- it is cat’s nature to scratch, they sharpen their claws and get rid of old material this way.
- cat’s natural instincts make them jump, hide, climb and chase. In wildlife cats need to hunt and kill other animals in order to survive and this is still dominating the behavior of our pet cats.
- cats sleep up to 15 hours daily. They love safe and warm places to sleep. Cat’s don’t like loud or stressful places.
As you can see, your cat has cerain needs to be satisfied. If you don’t provide a place to scratch, your cat will use your sofa because there is nothing else. If you don’t provide a nice place for your cat to sleep, your bed will be used…
What kind of cat furniture should you look for?
There are many different types of cat furniture that you can choose from. Your choice always depends on what kind of cat you have and how much space you have in your house. You don’t need to get a giant cat tree, a small one will do as well. More important than the size of your cat furniture is the quality. Your cat will use the cat tree or whatever kind of furniture you get, to scratch and climb. Therefore the cat tree must be save for your cat to use. It is always better to invest into quality once rather than purchasing a new cat furniture once a year.
The best kind of cat furniture are definately those that satisfy multiple needs of your cat. Most cat trees are combined with a scratch pole, some include a condo, a place where your cat can hide and sleep. There are some trees that include toys like hanging balls, these are great for your cat to play with.
You find these cat trees unattractive, even ugly?
You can get a designer cat furniture that is designed to appeal to humans as well as to cats. These designer trees and codos are sometimes mado of maple or oak hardwood and therefore not cheap. You can find designer cat trees in all variations and forms.
Before you go and purchase a cat tree you might want to
- read online reviews from other pet owners, see what types of cat trees they found most useful.
- compare the prices of different companies
- compare the quality of the cat furniture
- think about the color of the cat furniture
- what about the cleanability?
As you can see, there are quite a few things to consider before getting the new cat furniture. Write down what you expect to get and then look for it and compare the prices.
